Big Sister of the Year

                  Sheryl Talley

Little Sister: “Coco”

Congratulations to Sheryl Talley for winning Big Sister of the Year! Sheryl has been a Big Sister to 12 year-old “Coco” for over one year. They are like “two peas in a pod,” according to Coco’s mother.

As a Big Sister, Sheryl dedicates a lot of her time to Coco. They enjoy cooking, decorating Sheryl’s new home, going out to dinner and doing school assignments at the library. This year at Sheryl’s family reunion in Atlanta, Coco was officially welcomed into the Talley family and was added to their family tree!    The relationship that Sheryl and Coco have is very special. Coco was asked what she thought of her Big, and her answer was that she was a ”star that shines to me.” We couldn’t agree more.

 SUCCESS STORIES

According to Ralph Waldo Emerson, success means "... To laugh often and much, to win respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics ... to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

Our Big Brothers and Big Sisters are helping children develop, have fun, and succeed in ways that otherwise might not have been possible.  Our Big Brothers and Sisters are making a difference!

Big Brother of the Year '07:

Anthony Hill

Little Brother: Corey S., 15

Matched Since: August 2005

Anthony was honored November 19, 2007 as Big Brother of the Year at the Family Center’s Annual Banquet. He and his little brother, Corey, have been matched since August 2005. While on stage, accepting the honor, audience members could see the special bond that these two have built over the years. They can be pretty competitive, whether playing video games or tossing the football at Lake Bottom Park. Sports are their favorite activity which explains why they really enjoyed going to a Catfish game last summer. Their conversations usually include topics such as the blended family, focusing in school, and how to treat girls.

During a 1-yr review, Corey’s mother stated, “They have come a long way.” She and Corey call Anthony by his middle name, Chavez because he is like family to them.  Corey struggled with his mother's decision to get married last year but was able to respect his mother’s decision with Anthony’s support. When it came time for the wedding, Corey and Anthony were both groomsmen.   BBBS salutes Anthony and other mentors that are committed to their Littles.
