Volunteer Recognition Picnic

On September 21, Bigs and Littles from Columbus and LaGrange converged on Butt’s Mill Farm ,in Pine Mountain, for our first Volunteer Appreciation Day. Matches were treated to a variety of events including: horseback riding, animal exhibits, fishing, waterslides, and many more. This event was also a chance for us to thank our Bigs for all of the hard work and dedication they have shown in making their matches successful. The ceremony began with Meg Sturdevant awarding the “Golden Heart” award, for outstanding efforts by a board member, to Polly Hutchinson of LaGrange. Meg spoke lovingly about Polly, her deeds, and her love for the children in our program; she finished her speech by saying that the “Golden Heart Award” will now be known as the “Polly Hutchinson Award”, in honor of her giving spirit and courage.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Year  were also recognized during the awards ceremony; each of these mentors were identified as exemplary models of what it takes to be an effective mentor. Congratulations to Stephen Edelson (LaGrange), Amanda Smallwood (LaGrange), Daryl Wright (Columbus), and Pashion Keller (Columbus). We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Bigs for the support and dedication they have shown their Littles during their matches; you are the reason we are able to serve. We would also like to thank Butt’s Mill Farms, Bruster’s Ice Cream, One 12 Apparel, 322nd Engineering Company, the students of LaGrange College, our board members, matches, and all of the families that helped to make this event a success.

Cruise for Kids 2008

On April 19, motorcyclists from the Columbus area participated in the Cruise for Kids poker run. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the riders and volunteers that turned out to support our organization.
