Waiting Little's Fishing Trip Since boys have a long waiting period to get a Big Brother, BBBS sometimes have special events for them. A group of Christian, mostly retired, servicemen hosted a fishing outing on Saturday, September 27 at Creek Stand Catfish Farm in Salem, AL. Before the waiting little brothers started fishing, they were giving safety training and matched with a Big For A Day Mentor. All the boys were successful at catching plenty of catfish for lunch. After eating, the Big For a Day Mentors had a group discussion with the boys about life skills. Waiting little, Derrick was presented the 1st place trophy by the Event Coordinator, Michael Mosley for catching the biggest fish which weighed 3 1/2lbs. BBBS would like to thank Mosley and all of the Big For A Day Participants for reaching out to our waiting littles. Atlanta Braves Game
The weekend of September 6th and 7th, we invited our matches to come out and spend the day watching the Atlanta Braves take on the Washington Nationals. Although the Braves were defeated in both games, it was a great weekend that many matches enjoyed.
Back To School Pool Party On August 16, 2008 Bigs and Littles gathered at the Holiday Inn in Columbus for an afternoon of swimming and fellowship. The event was a huge success, with over 20 matches attending. We would like to thank Holiday Inn for the use of their pool and the wonderful lunch they provided. Thank you to everyone for coming out and spending a Saturday with us; you guys are the reason this program is a success! |
